Cucumis melo
90 days. Fruits are oval-shaped, ridged, moderately netted, and average at 4 lbs. The fruits have orange flesh, an excellent flavor and a fine texture. Plants are hardy and resist sap beetles. For the best melons, there is a short window of time of harvest before the fruits become overripe. To catch a melon at its peak, check the patch every other day when nearing harvest time, looking for tell-tale signs of cracking around the stem and full aromas. Fruits should be harvested and eaten on the same day picked, usually when it slips easily from the vine.
